philosophizing behind the wheel

i am
nothing
unless
there is
something
inside
driving me
to move
forward
.
.
.
my point
is
driving a car is a hell of a lot easier than driving one’s life

Can you see them?
*
I look up in the sky and I can see them…
*
they flit about & float around,
soar through the clouds
or
quietly hover overhead.
*
some are bright & flamboyant
and
some could use a little polish
or
a splash of color.
*
there are the really, really big ones –
the very teeny, tiny ones
and
there are many middle-of-the-road ones.
*
there are lots of practical ones,
totally rockin’ cool ones
and
the way, way beyond unusual ones.
*
some are new to this world
and
some have been in existence for centuries.
*
no one knows where they come from
and
no one knows where they are going.
*
What is known is this –
*
they are what they are
and
they do what they do
and
it the responsibility of the thinkers and dreamers
to
keep them alive…
*
I can see them – CAN YOU?

the duelists
∫
while standing on the front lines
looking over the fields ahead,
i see battle after battle
and
rivers flowing with the color of red.
∫
some battles are nothing special –
just ordinary from beginning to end
while some are of epic proportions
and
without any knowledge of what lies ahead.
∫
if i take a much closer look,
i see each battle as a duel between two souls…
two souls belonging to the same adversary…
two diametrical halves creating a whole.
∫
this being is a worthy opponent,
an opponent i know all too well –
she can anticipate my every movement
and
easily lead me through the gates of hell.
∫
the two halves of her make the whole of me
and
it is she
i resist everyday –
so many battles devoid of triumph…
doing my best to avoid the brunt of each fray.
∫
i am by no means a tactician
but
i have learned a thing or two…
through years of dueling against my opponent
and
walking daily in ‘her’ shoes
•••
if i can manage to grab hold of the high ground
&
maintain a level head in which to fight,
i can stand high above my weaknesses
&
allow my courage
and
determination to take flight.

The Nutcracker Act II Pas De Deux

he extends his arm –
she gently takes his hand
stepping onto perfect pointes.
gracefully and delicately
a majestic pas de deux unfolds…
dreams of sugar plums become her desire…..

In 1974, the Cincinnati Ballet Company premiered The Nutcracker. For two years, I sat in the audience – mesmerized. In Summer of 1976, I changed ballet schools and that December I was cast as a party girl and bunny. Many little girls and boys see more than just a ballet while sitting in the audience of a production of The Nutcracker – they discover their heart’s true desire.

deep concentration…

perchance a strike awaits him?
