we may never do this

Gratitude and Appreciation

It is a cold and snowy Sunday afternoon in Northern Illinois.  I have been doddling around the house and decided to take on some blog maintenance and get caught up.  Since 2014 is right around the corner, I thought it would be nice to ‘spruce up and tidy up’ my blog.

As one can see, I have changed themes and have incorporated an awards page.  I adore every award I receive and greatly appreciate them.  With that said, I am dedicating a page – kinda like a bookshelf – to my awards.  I have just begun construction, tossing ideas around, and I thought it would be nice to christen the page with some lovely awards which have been given to me by a few very special friends, who just so happen to be very gifted writers….

The Semper Fidelis Award

Gifted by Shaun at Looking for Reasoning to a Complicated World

The Rules:

  • Add the Semper Fidelis Award logo somewhere on your blog.
  • Thank the person who nominated you and link back to their blog.
  • Nominate 5 bloggers who’s loyalty and friendship you value and who you consider being part of your ‘pack of wolves’ on WordPress.
  • Post something special for all of your nominees separately and dedicate it to them. This can be a quote, saying, poem, picture, anything you think that would fit that person.
  • Let the nominees know that you’ve nominated them.

My special pack of wolves…

1.  Dominic at

There was one name that popped out of my head when I first received this award – Dom.  Quite simply, he is a brilliant writer. He can write the most prolific haiku and turn around and write a sonnet that could have fallen off the pages of a Shakespearean manuscript.  I must say what I admire the most about Dom is his ability to describe the human condition – in all of its ‘faces’ and write with compassion, sensitivity and honesty.  This is a gift – and one that I treasure. {Note to Dom – Thee are thouest my special friend.  I doth admirest thee.}

2.  Skye at

Skye is a loving and precious soul.  She is always ‘there’ with a kind word that can warm even the ‘coldest’ of hearts.  Her faith is inspiring.  I could not imagine the WordPress community without her genuine compassion and love for life.  {Note to Skye:  God created you from a star he plucked from the heavens – to (amongst many things, of course) bring light and warmth into the WordPress community.}

3.  Merry at

Humph, what can I say about Merry….. Well, she is one of the funniest people I know.  I mean, she can knock me off my chair with her sense of humor.  She is also one of the bravest people I know – she epitomizes the concept of how humor can lighten one’s ‘heavy load’ of life.  She has lightened my load many a time.  We share the same home state of Ohio and we have shared a few ‘similar’ life experiences and danggit she is just one of the loveliest people I have been blessed to have met on WordPress.  {Note to Merry – You and I are going to make our trailerhood a reality….)

4.  Jen at

What first caught my eye about Jen’s blog was her love of art.  Her ability to combine the masterpieces of artistic expression and words in poetic form is absolutely priceless.  As I have come to know her through her work, I have discovered forms of poetry I never thought existed.  Also, she is a fellow stalker admirer of Benedict Cumberbatch and with that said, opened my eyes to BBC’s  Sherlock Holmes, of which my son Peyton has taken quite the liking.   Quite simply, Jen is a very special friend.  {Note to Jen – Are you counting down the days – hours to January 19th yet?  Do you think BC can make a dragon look hunky good?}

5.  WB at

Earlier this year, I decided to log onto my WordPress account after a ‘almost year long’ absence.  After a few weeks of writing and reading, I stumbled across a rather interesting blog.  It was visually beautiful and the words were astounding.  I was inspired.  WB can be compared to a composer – his thoughts are structured in words and arranged in a meticulous manner which create a lyrical and visual experience, which in turn effectuates a purpose.  I find myself tangled in thought; mesmerized by multiple interpretations.  Quite simply, I am challenged and I enjoy being challenged!  Oh! Oh! & sometimes, I truly believe he is conveying a message in response to the many thoughts which plague my mind.   {Note to WB – I always look forward to your next piece.  Hummm, what might next time bring?)

I have another person I would like to mention and that is Shaun.  I would first like to thank him for thinking of me and for bestowing this wonderful gift.  Secondly, I would like to thank Shaun for being such a beautiful friend.  Though he lives across the big pond, he is always present – not just on WordPress but in friendship.  He is a kind soul and has a selfless heart.  I also enjoy his sense of humor and his love of information.  Honestly, Shaun is a really cool guy and a great person to have in my ‘pack of wolves’.

So, there you have it – 15 awesome nominees.  I returned to WordPress with the intent to scribble a few thoughts.  I never expected to find friendship and friendship is exactly what I discovered.  WordPress would not be the same without them and my life would not be the same, either:)

One last note to my nominees:  I know that some of you do not accept awards.  I perfectly understand and mean no disrespect.  I see these awards as gifts – gifts of appreciation and gratitude for your inspiration and the friendship you bring to my heart.

Until the next round of gratitude and appreciation…..

Happy Reading, Happy Writing and Happy Day!!

With love,

Thank You Transmission #1

‘Tis the time of year to give thanks, so I have decided to do so in a story telling format (after having been inspired by watching the Harry Potter marathon on the Fox Family Channel and the Star Wars Marathon on the Spike Channel – two cable channels in the USofA).  Without further adieu – make yourself comfy, cue the tunes and away we go…..

Once upon a long time ago, in a universe far, far away, there lived a clan of four soldiers.  (This is a true story) They were a kind, loving bunch spreading goodwill throughout the universe – protecting those who could not protect themselves.   The leader of the clan, Syd Pee 3-O, was the strongest of them all with a Paw that could maim with a single swipe.  Next in command was the brains of the operation,  Jor-2-d-2.  He was the technical mastermind, able to bring any operating system to its knees.  Then there was the director of security, Master PeYoda.  He could cook up any top-secret plan and execute it with precision.  The last member, MomBacca, took it upon herself to watch over the clan – making certain the ship was operational, supply clean underwear, food in the fridge and – this is the most important – tuck the soldiers in at night.  MomBacca did have one more responsibility – to blog, aka to communicate.  Blogging made use of the W3 (top-secret wavey things in space), and for the millions of other goodwill soldiers, this was their only means of communication.

Eons of years were spent traversing the universe.  Eons of  clans came and went and many blogs were transmitted, whereupon they still do exist – floating amongst the W3’s in space.  Many of these transmissions have been passed down from generation to generation and some have been placed into a collective source called the WP…………….flash to present day…….

I am the great, great, great…etc… grandchild of MomBacca.  I still oversee the transport, food and laundry of my little clan and I have continued the tradition of blogging.  I blog about many things but one of my absolute favorite things to blog about is gratitude for my fellow ‘clans people’ and here is one such transmission…….

As you can see, I have bent the rules quite a bit.   I have adjusted the number of nominees and the amount of information given about me.  First of all, there is not too much to tell about myself and secondly, I want to spare you the many more words I have to type – of which I have many more to type and they will be revealed shortly with a few more upcoming ‘transmissions’ of gratitude.

I would like to end on this note:  I sincerely want to thank each and every fellow blogger for each moment you have gifted of yourself on your blog site.  These include more than the follows,  likes, comments and awards you have given me – they are the photos, words, thoughts and feelings expressed in each post – the little bits of yourselves you share across the W3’s on the WP!

my bike

round and round

the wheels turn-

pushing and pulling pedals.

circles and circles

going far –

miles and miles

forearms resting in aero bars,

water bottles sitting in cages;

the playlist blaring in both ears

a chest pounding rapidly at bay…

10 minute, 20 minutes, 45, 60

sometimes many, many more.

if time is sparse, then less it is

dripping sweat all over the floor.

the mind is somewhere else

thinking of words, memories or things;

thinking about burning the day’s calories

beating up one’s self-esteem.

many times there is reading –

getting caught up with friends

other times there is writing –

spilling out feelings and distress.

a bike is like a friend

it can lift your spirits;

make you strong

challenge you –

take you places

you never imagined

a bike can also kill you –

leave you bleeding on the ground

as you feel your life slipping away

a future

never to be found.

Two weeks after this picture was taken, I had crashed in WI during a training ride – six weeks out from Ironman Wisconsin.  Spent three days in the hospital.  After five hours of surgery, two titanium plates, 48 titanium screws, concussion, scars, getting an xray evaluation of my carbon fiber bike and one year later, I competed and completed Ironman Wisconsin 2006.

howdy from app land

Greetings everyone – from my iPhone. I wanted to throw out a quick hello and to say I am a bit indisposed at the moment, but I am here. It seems that Dell’s virus has gotten worse, so tomorrow he is going to visit a techie dude, who will hopefully – please cross all of your digits (and eyes 😉 – fix the problem.

In the meantime I have my phone, which is rather inefficient. Sometimes I can ‘like’, but not comment. Sometimes I comment but cannot ‘like’. And the reader – well, do not get me started. Oodles of posts are missing. The boys are out of town, so ‘no Peyton’s iPad’ for me to mooch off of and work, well, work is work, so I can sneak a post sometimes but rarely.

I have been writing – lots – and I have been slow cooking an awards post which will make ‘Moby Dick’ look like a short story. I really miss y’all and cannot wait to get back home. I should be back up and running in a few days. In the meantime, enjoy your writing and reading and the summer.

Here are a few smooches – xx from me.
and a few licks from Pee – the canine desk.
