Act 1…

like the curtain rising on Act I,

the sun rises on a new day…

to work

driving to work…

is a road of tears floating me home…

pouring rain

deluge of sadness

pouring down from the heavens

drowning my senses

under changing shades of blue

chasing many bends and curves

pondering the day ahead

quiet and alone

sunrise, sunset

due east, sleepy-eyed

minions follow single file

straight on till one’s desk

sun coming up

logged off and doors locked

brain no longer absorbing

car inches westward

sun going down

first drive

all adjustments made

eyes wide, grip tight, nervous smile

power speaks volumes

a calming and loving voice

in a parking lot we go…

p.m. rush hour

There is a woman fixing her makeup.

Another primping her hair.

A guy chatting on a cell phone

others looking no worse for wear.

I see a man in the midst of a yawn.

A woman tapping out a text.

A guy in shades singing a tune

a few more sucking on cigarettes.

in the N.W. ‘burbs of Illinois –

when an evening drive can leave one exhausted

beyond ‘terribly’ annoyed!

post script:

I sat in my car,

inched all the way home.

There was nothing else better to do

sit and write this poem!

a sunday drive

i was driving along a winding road toward the setting sun, reflecting on the past few years of all i’ve seen and done. i am always amazed how time passes by with so many changes in so little time. a moment arrives – then gone in a flash – with more changes approaching –

i hope will be kind.

this road seems quite lengthy as i peer far ahead, but i know looks can be deceiving – distance is not always my friend. there may be miles to traverse or a dead-end around the corner – there is no way of knowing other than continue on – moving forward. i can prepare for my trip with a full tank and a plan or throw caution to the wind –

leave all details to chance.

it is easy to see one’s life as driving along a winding road. we can go in any direction or move along the ebb and flow. we will never know for certain how far there is to travel, but we can be assured of at least one thing –

there are many roads left to unravel.
