the masters and their dreamers

~

to stand on a stage again…

where the lights are bright

and

the music echoes through the rafters.

~

to feel the sensation of a pounding heart…

fueling the purest of desire to soar on the wings of muses

&

become one

with their masters

and

the

vision

which dwells

 forever

within their spirit…

~

this is my ‘for always’ dream.

legs

for more than twenty years…

you completed my lines,

you gave me a dream

and

you challenged my life.

i treated you with respect

and

tender loving care.

in return,

you gave me wings –

allowing me to fly through the air.

you were there at the beginning,

for all the blood, sweat

and

tears,

helped me soar above the sadness –

sustained my life through the years.

though my world no longer revolves

around a dance barre

and

a stage,

i look upon you – now –

still wishing for those days…

forever dreaming…

when life

was

young

and

the heart

was

brave.

Nutcracker – 1980

10 years of my life was spent in the land of The Nutcracker.  I cannot listen to the music without feeling or seeing the choreography and, yes, becoming very emotional.  For those of you familiar with the story (there are many interpretations), I am ‘choreographing’ poetry which aligns with the production I am quite intimate with – I hope you enjoy reading these little performances as much as I am ‘re-living’ them.

Nutcracker Treasures

All of my Nutcrackers are handmade in Germany – how someone can craft by hand a little itty bitty one astounds me.  These Nutcrackers arrived via my mom’s friend who brought them back from a trip to Germany.

a past dream

scan0001

once upon a dream…

he stood regal and tall

with strong arms

and

gentle hands

to support my twirls

and

catch my leaps…

leading me

through

 lands

of sweets

and

snow,

wooded forests,

majestic kingdoms,

grand ballrooms,

opera stages,

brightly lit studios

and

every

waking thought.

once upon a dream,

he completed

my pas de deux…

a cavalier to my fairy,

a prince to my princess,

doll maker to my doll,

a hunter to my swan…

he was

my

dream

of

dreams.

illusion then & now

*

dreams of fairies, swans and dolls

ruled a childhood

from the earliest dawn.

*

bobby pins, tulle, satin and lace

created an illusion –

cloaked the scars on her face.

*

pirouettes, arabesques, and jetes abound –

freedom of movement

in which a life could be found.

*

the studio and stage –

being her only home,

where the world was shut out

and

she could feel safe on her own.

*

dreaming, dancing, LIFE – they are all the same

they create an illusion

of smiles, beauty and grace

but

the reality is such

no one chooses to see –

it’s what we do to ourselves to be

what you want us to be.

a tiny little mushroom poking through the mulch

A tidbit:  Okay, yes – not a ballerina, per se, BUT I could not help but notice this little mushroom poking through the mulch on the side of a parking lot.  My photo doesn’t capture the glistening dew, so you will have to take my word on that:)  It was so delicate and the cap looked more like flower petals than a ‘shroomy looking hat.

In case you haven’t noticed, I see many things through the eyes of an ex-ballet dancer who spent years on the stage.  It seems as if the ‘arts’ shine through everything within my line of sight ……
