“I must let go of whom I hold most dear.”

deer hunter

Jordan is the one on the right – going for the Robert De Niro look from the movie “The Deer Hunter”.  The words are all him, as well.

It is official!  My son has been accepted in the American Film’s Institute’s (AFI) Summer Internship this summer!!! In Los Angeles……….across the country…….in a car…….

I could not be more proud.

Congratulations !! I have just checked out their website, quite an impressive group of alumni that they have what is seems certainly a prestigious school. I saw that even the producer of the movie “40 year old virgin” is an alumni. That was funny movie I recommend it if you haven´t seen it.
Your son does have a similarity with Robert, or Bob as I call him. Great things to come his way.

Thanks;). He is very excited. Can you imagine – spending the summer on movie sets! I am certain he will have much to tell. I am excited and nervous – being the freaking out mom….

Well don´t freak out too much, is not like he´s going to a war zone or something, he´s going to have probably one of the best times of his life and certainly great learning experience not only about movie type of things but just life in general will be my guess. Let the bird fly from the nest !! 😉 Congrat´s again.

Thank you. I am nervous – it hit me on Sunday while talking to him. And now, all I do is cry. Driving from Chicago to LA. Living in LA….all summer. He will be with a bunch of other movie geeks like himself – I use the word geek as a term of endearment. Oh dear – the tears are starting….

Oh Kim! I can only imagine that. My kids are still home so I’m not there yet. That would be a mix of feeling incredibly proud and incredibly sad. They are always our babies- no matter how far, no matter how old. You’re a great mama Kim ❤️❤️

      • 12. ladysighs  |  April 15, 2015 at 10:57 am

Not many know what they want to do. My daughter changed 3 majors in college. 😦

  • 13. Nimmi  |  April 14, 2015 at 1:03 pm

I will pass on your wishes. He is floating right now on cloud nine – I will have to give the message to a carrier pigeon:)

Thank you. This year’s AFI project centers around female directors. I cannot wait to hear about all the goings on…. My baby on a film set:) of course, he has that very hairy beard!

  • 21. Cara  |  April 14, 2015 at 2:20 pm

You’re not letting go of anything…he’s your son whether he’s at home or on a college campus miles away.

    • 22. words4jp  |  April 15, 2015 at 1:00 am

I know. I think it is the letting go of the baby Jordan. Inside my mind.

  • 23. Katarina  |  April 14, 2015 at 4:00 pm

    Congratulations. 🙂

    • 24. words4jp  |  April 15, 2015 at 1:00 am

      Thank you so much;)

  • 25. Dom DiFrancesco  |  April 14, 2015 at 5:45 pm

Congratulations Kimberly, that is a really big deal. 🙂

    • 26. words4jp  |  April 15, 2015 at 1:03 am

Yes. It is. And he is totally ecstatic. He is getting a car and driving across the country with two other friends who are in the program and living and working with people like himself with the same dream. The AFI is a huge deal. He got accepted by his application and resume alone. They did not even request an interview! (At least he got to save the beard!!)

  • 27. John W. Howell  |  April 14, 2015 at 8:49 pm

    Congrats to both of you.

    • 28. words4jp  |  April 15, 2015 at 1:04 am

Gee, thanks. It is all him. I am just mom – the keeper of all his movie stuff and things and the nervous nilly. 🙂
