Ironman Wisconsin 2006 – 1 second before crossing the finish line

 ~

For me, Ironman Wisconsin was the pinnacle of endurance.  Never had I ever undertaken such a task and it proved to be a true test of physical and mental gumption.  It was the longest day of my entire physical life.  The rain, the wind, unseasonable cold weather and the constant deadlines nipping at my heels.

I had one goal and ‘that’ was to finish and ‘that’ I did ~

3 minutes shy of 17 hours.

Thank you. It was a culmination of two years. 2005 was the intended race, but crashed and almost killed myself 6 weeks before the race. It was a hell of a race. 🙂

I bet you’re still tired. I know it was in 2006 but still. Take a nap.

Yes, I think you are right………after that race, I pretty much burned out. Two years of intense training….. There is always the future. Age groups go up into the 80’s!

Well that would be at least 17 hours faster than I could do it…very impressive. 🙂

From one endurance athlete (cycling) to another. Well done. VERY well done. The immense suffering and endurance, combined with the mental toughness to just keep going is staggering sometimes. Such a strong metaphor for life as well. The human body and mind are such powerful things combined. All that and inclement weather too? Bravo. My hats off to you.

I can only imagine. I have never undertaken (for fear of the undertaker. LOL) such an enormous challenge. Even a half Iron Man seems outta my reach. Not a swimmer either so it will be Sprint or Olympic distance Duathlons for me. Maybe next season. I have only done competitive cycling (Mtn and Road) before so the run is going to be a nice challenging change. Be well and hope to see more inspiring things from you. Both physically and intellectually.

I finished my first Ironman in 2009 at Arizona;16:14:09, the greatest day of my sporting life. You did so well to persevere all the way to 17 hours; that’s impressive, inspiring, [insert your own adjective here]. I always tell people that IMAZ showed me that I am tougher than I think I am, which has carried over into every aspect of my life. I know you know what I mean. I’m heading back to the Ironman next year (Canada) for another taste; Methinks it’s time you to contemplate another IM, as well… “the pain is temporary, the memories last forever…” 🙂
