hamburgers, hot dogs and barbeque
amongst many salads, chips and s’mores.
there is much on this holiday’s menu;
today’s tastings should not ∼
could not be
a
bore.
∗
there are gatherings of all shapes and sizes ∼
not your typical 24 hour day.
it is one in which we celebrate a special birth ∼
our guest of honor ∼
the US of A.
∗
though this is a day of feasting and fun,
let’s not lose sight of all we have lost;
those who fought hard for our independence ∼
the valiant who paid the ultimate cost.
∗
whether you live in my country or do not,
i wish all of you a wonderful Friday.
the weekend is almost upon us ∼
so enjoy some fun
&
go out
and
play!

Thank you so much – you and your family, as well. I have missed so many of your posts – I am getting caught up this weekend. The boys are with their dad and Pee and I are home. No driving!! It has been a summer of taxi service. 😉

I loved reading all of this and I love your light hearted wish for fun, food and friends. I’ll be alone as always on this day! Alex will be with friends. I love to take my camera and drive to the top of the hill and watch all the fireworks around me. It would be nice to have someone along with but I love the alone time too! Hugs to you sweet Kimberly. Have a super day!

Thank you. I am laying low – home with the Pee who is not having fun with the practice salvos being shot in the air. We live about a mile away from the big Village fireworks. She had pretty much attached herself to my leg:)

Oh dear!!! Hope she’s okay now. When I lived at home we always had dogs and they all hated the banging.

Spent the evening of the 4th at Riverbend for Red, White, and Boom with the Pops.

The last time I was at Riverbend – I was in college – George Benson and Annie Lennox.
The last time I saw the Pops – Erich Kunzel was still alive – he was standing in the Green Room in Music Hall drinking a post performance Heineken Beer. (He drank one before, as well)
The last time I saw the July 4th fireworks – was, in college, across the river in Covington. i was house sitting for e dancer in the ballet company – they owned one of the historical brick townhouses on 2nd Street.
My how time flies….. 🙂

Glad I brought back some memories.
The concert was a good one, which included an opera soloist (Jacqueline Echols), a spirited string trio (Time for Three), and a premier of an arrangement of Shennendoah by Peter Boyer (who was in attendance) … and nice fireworks after the concert. … and the weather was perfect!!!!
