the master

June 2, 2014 at 3:30 pm 21 comments

the canvas stares at it’s intended victim –

enticing and teasing.

challenging his mind

and

taunting his skill.

there is a constant query

between

the mind’s eye and the stroke –

what desire has envisioned

and

the brushes will allow.

the artist can imagine

a world no other being can perceive.

only they can bring to life

what is conjured deep inside –

molding figments into substance

is a challenge

and

an ache –

like a hunger which must be fed

in which to breathe,

in which to live.

once complete,

the opus exposes

a tiny slice of the artist’s soul –

taking on a life no longer tethered

to the master’s hand

or

his world –

within

in the end

a treasure is created

but

the hunger

must be fed,

whereupon the artist

becomes a slave

to his next

desire

&

his

unyielding

craft

Thank you so very much – I have been writing this piece for a few months – getting stuck and unstuck, trying to feel it and then lose it. How it ended up reads nothing like it was originally written:)

Absolutely stunning! I second what Jonathan said, “master stroke of metaphoric meter.” That says it all!

thanks – i have been trying to write this piece for a few months – trying to capture the ‘thing’ that keeps an artist doing what they do – being an artist – defining the artist…. this is applicable to any artist – regardless of what genre of art.
